Final Week of Phase 3!

This week has been an exciting busy week! We are missing Meg greatly, but we were happy to hear she made it back home after many naps on airport floors and several different lay overs.

We started this week with our beginning class showing us all of their spectacular improvement on their scenario framework. There is still lots of room for improvement, but we are happy to see how far they have come already. Our advanced class took over this Monday, and presented their weekend homework. Each student was assigned one of the “Deadly Dozen” chest traumas, and presented/taught their peers! We were thoroughly impressed with how well they did, and it put smiles across our faces to see them taking the lead in the classroom.

On Tuesday, our advanced students had a very informational day, learning brand new topics to them such as oxygen therapy, airway adjuncts, and neonatal resuscitation. They ended the day full of laughter and STRESS as we presented them with a high fidelity scenario of Alex “going into labour” and “delivering a baby” who required resuscitation. As much fun as this was we were pleased to see how serious they took this situation and how quickly they acted to assist both mother and baby.

We ended the class on Tuesday on a very happy note, as the advanced class received their uniforms, which they all look incredibly smart and professional in. We also got news that the ambulance has finally arrived in Kampala!! Some paperwork still needs to be dealt with, but we are one step closer to this amazing dream becoming a reality!

Yesterday our beginner class had more practice scenarios and review for their final exam on Thursday! Our advanced class had a bit of a change in the classroom, as they were taught a crash course in emergency call taking and ambulance dispatch by Alex. This will be a huge learning curve for them, and there will be many adjustments made along the way to make this program work in Uganda, but the basics have now been taught and all of the students were very excited.

Wish all of our students the best of luck as they complete their final exams and scenarios on Thursday, we know they will all do amazing!

On a final note we will be starting a “People of CUES” blog updates for you all, so you can get to know the wonderful people who make up our advanced class. Stay tuned for the first ever People of CUES! Webale Nyo all!!
