HUMANS OF CUES Student Feature. Nyabos and ssebos, meet Salama! “My name is Jam Salama Twalib, aged 48. I was born in central Uganda and came from a large family with 10 siblings. I am a proud mother of 5 children, some of whom are happily married. My hobbies include reading, cooking, and I do these very often in my personal time. Before enlisting for the first basic class organized in 2018. I was a hairdresser running my own ladies salon. The opportunity of practical skills in a new field opened up the possibility of turning into emergency care services and ever since, I have personally realized many benefits. As a student in the advanced class of 2019 I was selected to be part of a team of 10 participants to take further training and capacity development in preparation service on ambulance teams with Liberty Emergency Care Collaborative. I am very proud to be part of this initiative and believe that I will put my skills to good use in service. Also I thank you all well wishers and sponsors that are making it possible to start a community emergency ambulance service in Kawempe municipality. May God bless you all.” -Salama
Salama is one of the “originals”, involved with CUES since it’s kickstart. Her dedication to the initiative, to her studies and to her community is evidenced by her impeccable attendance record, punctuality, attentiveness in class and undeniable work ethic. We have witnessed an incredible growth in Salama’s confidence, most prominently throughout Phase 3. She is often the first to raise her hand to answer “pop quiz” questions and to volunteer for practical scenarios. We are so happy to have Salama with the CUES project and anticipate she will continue to be a leader as she transitions into her role as a Liberty Emergency Care Collaborative (LECC) First Responder. Way to go Salama!
